Pierre Cardin (also known as Pietro Cardin) is an Italian-born French fashion designer who was most famous for his avant garde designs during the sixties. He often experimented with fabrics and fashion styles to present collections that were inspired by space age designs.
The 1960s marked a huge success for the designer, and that was the decade in which the designer took science as a starting point of inspiration when designing clothes. In addition to science and the 'Space Age Look', Pierre Cardin also took inspiration from the Japanese culture (see image on right above, with Japanese model Hiroko Matsumoto alongside other models, modelling Cardin's signature short dress.
Up until today, Pierre Cardin's work throughout the 60s remains an inspiration for many futuristic Japanese artists and fashion designers.
