"It takes getting everything you ever wanted and then losing it to know what true freedom is."

Freedom is a concept our ancestors fought for with their lives, only for us to come and misuse the word so carelessly, with zero appreciation of what it really means to be free.

They say you know when you meet a free spirited mind; you simply feel good around one. It is extremely rare to find a mind with absolute freedom and inner peace, and no I am not talking about what our modern day society would name an 'open minded person', to have complete and utter freedom is not necessarily the uninhibited individual, or one who does as he/she pleases.

I am asking this question: what does it mean to be free? not because I know the answer, otherwise I would't have asked. However, I have formulated my own definition of what it really means to be free, and how I appreciate my personal freedom and this definition is subject to change as I age and hopefully become wiser.

Freedom to me is the ability to appreciate, be grateful, and realizing that what you have always wanted is in your possession. To have what you always wanted, without the risk of having it validated by any other person, is freedom. Freedom to me is allowing yourself to be sensitive without beating yourself too much about it; silly, he or she who believes desensitizing one-self is the right way to go. This would only develop lack of freedom of feelings, which is crucial to feeling free. Freedom to me is the freedom of movement, its on a physical as well as an emotional level; it gives no barrier to your body, nor soul. To be free is to have your soul dancing and dancing to a never ending tune which you love. It is doing what you want, whenever you want, and still being able to smile through it all. It is learning how to say no when your heart tells you no, and your mind is also there to back it up. It is a beautiful feeling to be free, and it's a state of mind.

Share your thoughts, I'd love to read how different people interpret the concept of being free.
