Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen "A. P. J." Abdul Kalam is the former president of India (from 2002 to 2007). On the 27th of July, 2015 he sadly passed away. His loss, was not only a great loss to India ... but a great loss to the entire world.

I came across Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam when he visited my high school approximately four years ago; sadly, I did not get to attend the lecture he gave out to the senior students, however I managed to get a glance of him and obtain a signed copy of his autobiography 'Wings of Fire'. I gladly took the time to read his autobiography two years later, and was astonished - in a good way - by his journey to success and to the point where he received the presidency title. As a tribute, AlBalsamLife.com would like to honor this inspiring man's life by sharing his most memorable quotes, especially the ones that have inspired me as a young woman.

I strongly believe that I am extremely saddened by this loss because I honestly feel like I can relate to Dr. Abdul Kalam and his aims in this world. I always believed that one must dare to follow a different path than the rest of the public, especially those at a young age because I believe in the power of the youth. Dr. Abdul Kalam stated the following:

"My message, especially to young people is to have courage to think differently, courage to invent, to travel the unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the problems and succeed. These are great qualities that they must work towards. This is my message to the young people."

Similarly, I strongly encourage the youth to stand up for what they believe in and not just follow a life planned for them either by the society or even their own parents! it takes courage to take a new path in life, and if one must fight for it ... then one should certainly fight.

"While children are struggling to be unique, the world around them is trying all means to make them look like everybody else."

I was so happy when I read this statement, because I absolutely agree with every single word stated. I personally have been a victim of falling for the society's expectations of me, as well as my own family rules and step-by-step planned path of life; until quite recently where I decided I can no longer live that way. Also, he was a dreamer and was never afraid to confess it.

"You have to dream before your dreams can come true."

I have honestly learnt a great deal of life lessons and career tips from Dr. Abdul Kalam's autobiography. Few of his most memorable quotes that I personally learnt from are listed below.

"For me, there is no such thing as a negative experience."
"Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident."
"Man needs his difficulties because they are necessary to enjoy success."
"One  best book is equal to hundred good friends but one good friend is equal to a library."
