This week, Tommy Hilfiger premiered the Zooey Deschanel collection (you can view the collection here). This has got the fashion world thrilled: they're a collection of vintage-inspired, sporty dresses. Some are called tennis dresses, and others are called school girl dresses. So let's talk about this sporty dress style. How can you incorporate this into your wardrobe, and how do you wear sporty dresses?
If you're sporting one of these sporty dresses for inside, go for chic, minimalist accessories. You can belt a shirt dress (though make sure that it's a thin belt and not, say, a corset belt) like with a belt from Express (this one has a bow on it, too). If the dress is as the center model and already has a belt, try adding coordinated bangles similar to these from Candy Apple. If you're going to a party and don't want to leave your purse unattended, try a cross body bag with a chain like these from AliExpress.
If you're taking your sporty dresses for a day out, it's just as important to consider the right accessories. Try wearing a hat: whether you're going for the cowgirl look with a cowboy hat, the Diane Keaton look with the flat top hat, or a Derby look with a fedora, find your brims here and protect your face from the sun with style. Another way to protect your face from the sun is to get a great pair of aviators: honestly, they look good on everyone. Lastly, make sure you have good walking shoes for your day out. Kate Spade has designed a line of Keds that might match your sporty frock, you can go with a pair of gladiator sandals, or you can try a cute pair of Oxfords for a more vintage look.
Too windy outside? Too cold inside? Unpredictable weather? Night out on the town? If you're not sure you want to wear a skirt because of your comfort level, don't give in to a day in gym pants. No, instead, sport leggings underneath the dress to give yourself a little more security and comfort. Here's the best part: leggings slim your legs and provide a line at the ankle that coordinates wonderfully with Keds, Oxfords, flats, or if you're feeling adventurous, heels.
