Makeup has been big on the catwalk this year, and the 2014 summer trends are already out in earnest. If you love fashion and cannot be left behind by trends, you will be happy to know that this season is all about experimenting and having fun. Below are the makeup trends for summer as seen on the catwalk.

#7: Bright orange lips

Orange is definitely in this season, so do not be afraid to try out a few different tones including coral and neon. Use a chunky, glide-on pencil to achieve the best look. There are definitely a couple of brands to choose from including NARS Heat Wave Lipstick and Revlon ColorBurst. The look was seen on the Creatures of the Wind and at the Rag & Bone runway where the models wore satin textured and matte orange tones respectively. Neon-bright is another tone that you should definitely try as seen at the Prabal Gurung fashion show.

#6: Graphic eyeliner

There is a retro feel as far as eyeliner goes, with a modern edge to it. This features graphic eyeliner with angular shapes and straight flicks. The look has been spotted on models including Anya Hindmarch who doused a graphic smoky look at a recent fashion show. There are a couple of products that you can choose from including Estee Lauder, L’Oreal Paris and Clinique all of whom carry a line for this look. To find out how to wear graphic liner click here.

#5: Golden glows

If you want to look tanned this summer, a golden day-glow is the way to go. The Dolce & Gabbana models used apricot blush to create beautiful halos. The Michael Kors models also accentuated their beautiful cheekbones with rich tans, with the most notable face at the show being Karlie Kloss. Some of the range of products to look out for includes MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark as well as the Michael Kors Beauty Bronze Powder.

#4: Top and bottom false lashes

We have seen a lot of retro makeup this summer, with the 60s style top and bottom false lashes making a debut at the London Fashion Week. The look to go for is the feathery lashes both on the top and bottom eyelids, reminiscent of Jane Birkin but with a modern twist. Eyelash extensions stores from Sydney to New York and London will definitely be working overtime just to keep up with the trend. Some of the models that showcased the false lashes include Holly Fulton and Jean-Pierre Braganza, and the look is no doubt bound to catch on.

#3: Aquatic eyes

This season is all about going bold, and blue eyes get it right every time. The trend returned in earnest in 2013, and has spilled over to this year, with a little more variety. Whether it is blocks of shadow or simply subtle liner, you are bound to get something for you. The look was a big hit at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show which featured a dense and arresting electric blue eye shadow. The same was repeated at the Giorgio Armani runway that spotted an almost transparent wash of turquoise. Some of the products to look out for include the Givenchy Ombre and Kiko Eyeshadow.

#2: Schoolboy Brows

The arch eyebrow is unfortunately not making a comeback this season, and has been replaced by the blunt, boyish eyebrows. There is a lot of leeway as far as styling your brows this season. At Erdem for example, the look was full and feral brows. The Louis Vuitton catwalk featured mostly black brows, while Calvin Klein was leaning towards the more bold yet bushy brows. Some of the products that will suit you well for this look include Benefit Gimme Brow and bareMinerals Frame and Define Brow.

#1: Barefaced beauty

The biggest oxymoron of summer 2014 is the barefaced beauty look, which of course means spotting little or no makeup. Victoria Beckham is probably the biggest name spotting the look this season. If you don’t have flawless skin, just make sure that it is well conditioned. A little goes a long way this season. Groomed brows such as those seen at Alexander Wang, and lip conditioning and clever concealing at Balmain are all looks that will suit you well. Some of the products that you might find useful for spotting this look include Rapid Radiance Balm and No7 Instant Illusions among others.

It is all about finding a look that suits you best. As much as being trendy is important, you also want to make sure that you choose makeup that works specifically for you. Don’t be afraid to splurge a little on your makeup and most of all, have fun!
