Remembering the legendary Alexander McQueen

"I want to empower women. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress."

And that is exactly what the very well respected designer managed to do through his fierce and sophisticated designs: empower women.

Today, the 11th of February 2014, marks the 4th anniversary of the passing of the founder of the fashion line Alexander McQueen. A true fashion inspiration, and a genius was lost today four years ago. To me, this meant more than just a great loss to the fashion industry, to me this was the loss of an idol that I certainly looked up to when it comes to fashion and design. There was not a single part of Alexander McQueen that I did not admire, from his passion towards creation, to his lack of interest in fame and all that comes with it. This man was dedicated to design, and nothing else.

The name Alexander McQueen still holds a very high status in the industry, showing how powerful the line can be even without its founder. It's a pity of course, to not have the genius behind the empire at this day, but I do wish that the name of McQueen remains sky high.

I have previously expressed my thoughts and admiration towards McQueen in a post that I have written in the form of a letter to the man Lee Alexander McQueen (click here to read it), which was aimed to be a simple thank you for all of the wonderful things he has done to the fashion world.

In the end, what we have left from McQueen is barely a memory of his success through the past few years, and his wise words that can guide us in the right path in such chaotic industry. I would like to share a few of my all time favorite quotes by Alexander McQueen with all of my beloved readers, hoping that we all remember how much of a great man/designer he was.

"Give me time and I'll give you a revolution."

"Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment."

"I've had good times; I've had bad times."

"Fame should be left to the film stars."

"I work with people I admire and respect. It's never because of who they are."

"When I'm dead and gone, people will know that the twenty-first century was started by Alexander McQueen."

"There comes a time in your life when you focus solely on what you believe is right, regardless of what everybody else is doing."

"There is no better designer than nature"

"I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people would perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it."

  1. Great Post! I as well felt the loss four years ago. He was a great designer and role model to the fashion world. He was, still is, and always will be missed.

  2. The vision that came out in his pieces were just breathtaking in EVERY collection. Alexander McQueen made me appreciate the darkness in beauty and view things that I though were unattractive to be so much more. I am still learning about him and researching more into his life and designs. Great post!
